1940 Chevy Truck

Owner: Marvin Walker

My other truck!

I bought my 1940 Chevy truck in 1980 from John Lee in Hiddenite, NC for $4,000. John built the truck in 1970 after pulling it from a junk yard 2 years earlier. It had NC Forestry emblems on the doors when he found it! Since john traveled to body shops delivering salvaged body parts, he found many N.O.S. parts to rebuild the truck, including all the fenders, grill, and tailgate. (John told me that the man who sold him the tailgate for $25, committed suicide two weeks later!) When I bought the truck, it was all black with a 300hp 327 engine, 3 speed trans with floor shift, 355 gear 12 bolt rear, and the original straight front axle and steering. I changed the front suspension to a Fatman's mustang II with disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering, and lowered it, about 15 years ago.  It still has the 1968, 300hp 327 engine that has less than 35k miles on it! The rest of the running gear is as I bought it. Mike Taylor, former President of C.C.C. did a total rebuild on the body about 6 years ago. It was stripped down to nothing but the bare cab on the frame! I love my family, and I like my truck! Sally says that this truck is staying in the family, too!
