I bought the 65 Chevy truck in 1996, in Hiddenite, NC, for $900. It came with a
283 engine with a burned valve, 3 speed manual transmission with overdrive, and
had faded red paint. A friend of mine, Wendal Ingram built the truck for me. It
started out to be a daily driver, but ended up more that that! It was a total
frame-off rebuild. All rusted metal was replaced with new metal, including N.O.S.
fenders and tailgate. All the moldings are N.O.S., and all the chrome has been
re-plated. Since the truck had spent it's previous life hauling fertilizer, now
the only original part of the bed that came on the truck is 2 inches of both the
bed's inner fender boxes that were used to widen the replacement boxes to make
room for the 10 inch wide rear Chevy Rally wheels. The truck has 8 inch Rallies
in front. The engine is a "built" 350 which pushes the 250 gear rear (for gas
mileage) thru a 350 turbo automatic transmission. (Thanks again Melvin Gay for
the transmission! I busted the 400 turbo that I put in it first...being stupid!) It has power disc/drum brakes, power steering, and Vintage Air. The truck was
three years in the making and an investment of 20 times my original purchase price!
It will be in my family after I leave this world since
it will be my daughter Sally's truck! |
