Over 100 cars were present at "Beat the Heat" car show / cruise-in that was held on Saturday, 12 July 2008. The event was held to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House of Greenville and in memory of past club member, Pat Paxton. Registration was free and moneys were collected through the sale of tickets for door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Door prizes were donated by club members and local businesses. Trophies were sponsored by the RightWay and Bojangles restaurants (TANDS, Inc).
Over $800 in tickets were sold thanks to the efforts of Savannah Heath and Hannah Hill. These two young ladies, dressed "poodle skirts" and matching bows, won over the hearts (and wallets) of the participants.
Trophy winners, which were determined by participant vote, were as follows:
Best Paint: Allen Rowe of Stantonsberg with his '58 Chevy Pickup
Best interior: Adrian Overbee of Goldsboro with his '40 Packard 110
Best Engine: Dennis Grieve of Washington with his '55 Chevy Belair
Best of Show: Allen Rowe of Stantonsberg with his '58 Chevy Pickup
Three additional trophies were presented by Fred Wade, Becky Mitchell, and Darlene Paxton in memory of past club members:
Best Mustang in memory of Les Joyner
Best Ford in memory of Mitch Mitchell
Best Street Rod in memory of Pat Paxton
